General Chemicals 5 Ashville 1

AFTER a disappointing first half, the Chemics pulled off a terrific finish on Saturday to end the weekend joint first in division one of the Carlsberg West Cheshire League.

Chems took the lead on the half hour mark when the Ashville keeper failed to hold a corner kick from Wesley Cannon, resulting in a goalmouth scramble, which ended when Kevin Patterson pushed the ball into the visitor's goal.

But the lead was short lived as only five minutes later, Ashville were awarded a penalty following an alledged foul on an attacker by Jaques in the box.

Tony Cavin scored from the spot to ensure the score were level at half-time, during which the Chemics were given a rousing team talk to emerge a much better side after the break.

And they certainly started brightly, with Steve Arnold taking just a short time to round the keeper to score.

This was followed by further goals from Patterson with a superb free kick, Dewhurst from the penalty spot and Wesley Cannon.

Chemics now top of the table together with Cammell Lairds, both with three wins out of three, and man of the match on the day was Steve Arnold.

Tonight, the Chemics travel to Maghull (kick-off 6.30pm) and then take on Shell at Pavilions next Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
