TRINITY Methodist Church brought a little sunshine to Winsford on a drab Saturday afternoon thanks to its annual field day.

The event is the church's main fundraiser and this year it boosted the coffers by £5,303, including £115 raised in the collection boxes along the procession route.

John Lomas, field day secretary, said: "The weather was somewhat dull and a little wet, but this didn't spoil our proceedings and there was certainly a good atmosphere amongst our large crowd of visitors.

"Overall the event went very well and was a great success.

"It provided yet another opportunity when members and friends worked very hard together to ensure the success of the day, for which the church officials are most grateful to all who helped in any way."

Former church members Mr and Mrs Hulse came along to perform the opening and crowning ceremonies.

It was a particularly big day for Laura Cooke, Sunday School Queen, Hope Vernon, Primary Rose Queen and Sophie Broome, Fairy Queen.

This year there was an excellent parade through the streets of Wharton with many visiting queens and their retinue, Winsford Sea Cadets and Wharton Beavers and Cubs.

The procession was also boosted by four dancing troupes, Liverpool Carolinas Jazz Band and the Trinity Line Dance Group, who also provided an afternoon's entertainment on the field.
