EXAMS

PUPILS at a high school in Winsford had an agonising wait for their GCSE results last week - because the examination board delivered a whole set late.

A third of fifth year teenagers at Woodford Lodge High School were left waiting to find out how they had fared in their examinations for most of the day, while others around them received their results right on time in the morning.

A total of 33 Spanish GCSE results did not arrive at the school until after 2pm on the day - after teachers had spent the morning chasing the examination board, Edexcel, to track them down.

It was an anxious wait as the results will have played an important part in securing college places for most of the pupils.

Headteacher Steve Meeks said on the day: "The examination board has failed to release a whole set of Spanish results, which affects a third of the pupils at the school.

"Obviously I'm not very happy. They are the results our pupils have worked hard for and we've got some people who are deciding on what to take at A level, which they are now having to wait on.

Passed

"Because of the way the board's system works, the onus has been on me to chase them down and I've spent all morning trying to do that, but have been passed through to four different departments."

A spokesman for Edexcel confirmed the results had eventually arrived on Thursday and made no further comment.
