A REMARKABLE teenager from Leftwich has beaten all the odds, achieving 11 GCSEs - despite breaking her leg the night before exams started.

In spite of being in excruciating pain and only getting a bed at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester at 5am, Rosalyn Coull, of London Road, took her first exam in hospital the same afternoon.

The plucky Weaverham High School student took most of her exams in hospital and her hard work was rewarded when she gained three A*s and eight As.

Rosalyn said: "I cried when I got the results.

I think it was a great achievement to get what I've got. I was in so much pain and I didn't feel well at all."

Rosalyn was born with the femur bones in her both her legs aligned the wrong way.

Last summer she had major corrective surgery, which left her with plates and screws holding her legs together - leaving her in constant pain.

It was on Sunday, May 19, when tragedy struck.

She was appearing at the Manchester Evening Arena as part of a choir backing Barry Manilow.

Just before going on stage, Rosalyn climbed on a high stool to rest her legs but in trying to dismount, the stool pitched forwards, snapping her left leg just below the plate. X-rays revealed a nasty, jagged, fracture.

But nothing was going to stop the courageous student from taking her exams and with help from hospital staff and Weaverham High Schoo,l she was able to take them all.

Later she was transferred to Stretton Hospital to the consultant who had carried out her surgery. Weaverham HS provided invigilators to sit with her while she sat her exams, both in hospital and later, at home.

Mum Sandra said: "We are very proud after what she went through. It was very hard for us as parents to watch her."
