A MEMORIAL garden has been created at All Saints primary school for Jason Carter, a pupil who drowned in the Manchester Ship Canal.

Halton Play Council use the school grounds for their summer events and they decided to repay the school by helping to build the garden.

Now the Old Town school has a quiet, shaded area with a bench and table made from trees.

Vandals had destroyed some of the plants that were originally put down.

The Play Council enlisted the help of B&Q and Frodsham and Rivendell garden centres.

Ann Johnson from the Play Council, said: "The kids thoroughly enjoyed doing it, they were very proud of what they have done.

"It was so sad that vandals destroyed the garden like that because it meant so much to some of the kids who were there."

Matthew Reece, age nine, said the new garden was 'fantastic' and Gemma Reece, aged six, said: "I like it, we can sit on the bench and eat our toast."

Site manager, Alan Worral, said: "We are looking to expand it but it is being used by the kids at the moment.

"The kids think it's brilliant. If the weather's right they can sit out here and read and draw. It just seemed right to dedicate the area to Jason."
