A RUNCORN business is in dispute with Halton Council - over the cost of a wheelie bin.

Supa Temps say at £243 a year, they are paying too much considering they pay business rates.

The council say they operate a strict waste disposal policy and that they compare well with competing private firms.

Maggie Fowler, of Supa Temps, said: "Since we shred our waste paper we have only half a black bin bag full of paper each week.

"We had been putting our paper in the public skip since we opened but were told we couldn't do this."

Halton Council's commercial waste sales officer, James Elliot, said the council would make no apologies for endeavouring to provide a clean environment in the borough through a rigorous commercial waste policy.

He said: "All the options concerning the removal of waste were presented and discussed with Supa Temps, including the options of using a private firm as opposed to the council.

"The majority of firms within Runcorn town centre have agreements with us for the removal of their waste and we rarely have any problems.

"We are also being contracted by businesses outside of the Halton area who have heard about the service and want to use it."
