I WAS horrified when I read in the paper that approval has been given to demolish this lovely home.
I put an offer in on 33 Marsh Lane last year when it first went on the market.
My father-in-law, who is the founder of a prestigious architecture firm in Chester, had a look round it and found it to be sound and in good structural condition.
He never would have allowed us to put an offer in on it if it wasn't.
I simply don't believe it's crumbling. I think that this sets an extremely dangerous precedent that one can simply knock down a perfectly sound house to build 3 or more just for the sake of money.
It damages the integrity of Nantwich with its wealth of historic buildings. 33 Marsh Lane may not be listed, but it has a history as the town's vet-home and surgery.
It has history and character, lovely original features that are going to be forsaken so that a developer can make a few pounds.
Isn't there enough new building going on now? Shouldn't we pause for a moment of our building frenzy and allow some of the new developments to settle, to build up the town's infrastructure of new schools, roads and medical centres to service new residents.
How can we really allow someone to tear down a lovely, characterful family home to build 3 or 4 ugly, charmless little houses? Only greed can be behind it.
