ALEX boss Dario Gradi feels his team have made a "decent" start to life in Division Two, if not spectacular.

Five played have yielded two wins, two draws and a defeat.

Eight points out of a possible 15 isn't exactly what everyone had in mind but Crewe are only five off the top as most teams have taken points off each other.

Early days but it turns out to be a close season that has already seen Northampton win at Cardiff and former 100 percenters Wigan turned over by then pointless Port Vale on Monday.

Speaking after the 1-0 victory against Cheltenham, Gradi said:

"I'd like us to be playing better but we've got off to a decent start if not spectacular. So we can build on that, it could be worse.

"There wasn't a lot of good quality football out there (against Cheltenham).

"Vaughany has been very consistent but all the others have had their share of poor moments from the captain downwards.

"Kenny Lunt played a super pass for the goal and then did some poor things.

"It was a great goal from Rodney and he looked good but then faded as he does.

"Dean and Rob looked super for a spell then looked poor. They seem to have lost their confidence.

"We need to work on attitude and we don't really do that often, we tend to expect it and concentrate on the football."

The improvement in the defensive aspect has pleased the boss.

"That's two games on the trot now where teams haven't really looked like scoring goals against us and that's good," he said.
