THE funeral was held at Lach Dennis Parish Church for Charles Arthur Ryder who died on August 3, aged 86.

Charles Ryder was born in Elton, one of seven children - six boys and one girl - and he was the last remaining son of the late Harry and Constance Ryder, formerly of Hulse Farm, Lach Dennis where they moved to when Charles was six months old.

In his early years Charles worked on the farm and started a milk haulage business in 1952 that became North Western Milk Carriers. He retired at 62.

In 1942 he married Nora Walker and was widowed in 1972. Six years later he married Betty.

Charles was a member and past chairman of Plumley and District Probus, he was a choirboy and long time active member of Lach Dennis Church where his wife Betty plays the organ.

In his younger days he played football for the Young Farmers.

He followed motor racing and loved aviation, travelling, gardening and nature. Being a music lover he enjoyed ballroom and sequence dancing.

Charles leaves Betty, two children and three grandchildren.

The Rev Ken Davey conducted the service, assisted by lay reader Graham Sheen.

Interment was in the churchyard and donations were received for Lach Dennis Church

Arrangements were by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
