A TOUCH of class is to be introduced to the area in September when the Harlequin Players stage a production of Alan Ayckbourn's How the Other Half Loves.

The play, which will run from September 5 to 7, tells the story of three couples, the Fosters, Phillips and Featherstones, and their various marital problems.

The story begins as Frank Foster remembers his wedding anniversary, but his wife does not and is away from the house that evening despite giving no real excuse.

She tells Frank that she is helping Mary Featherstone face the truth about her husband, William, who is having an affair.

The audience is then introduced to Theresa Phillips who is furious that her husband, Bob, neglects her and continues to roll in drunk each evening.

When she confronts him he explains that he has been lending an ear to William Featherstone whose wife is having an affair.

Not totally convinced Theresa invites the Featherstones for a meal as does Frank Foster both intent on trying to help the couple heal their marital problems and discover the truth about their partners.

The stage is then set for an evening of confusion and misunderstanding.

How the Other Half Loves is the directorial debut for John Banks at the Harlequins although he has directed before most notably the world premier of The Devil at Midnight.

However John's talent lies in front of the curtain as well as behind and has been known to take on some challenging roles including Long John Silver in Treasure Island and Frank Doel in 84 Charing Cross Road.
