NEWLY-PROMOTED Alsager Town sit on top of the league after victory on Monday.

Steve Grocott and Andy Kinsey earned the 2-1 victory at Curzon Ashton.

Grocott put Alsager ahead on the half hour with a shot, and Kinsey secured the win with a goal 10 minutes from the end.

Curzon scored a consolation goal at the death.

The victory followed a battling performance by Alsager on Saturday to earn a well-deserved point at home to Warrington Town.

Alsager had to play for 58 minutes with 10 men after having Paul Ireland sent off midway through the first half.

Alsager had to withstand continual pressure, but showed the qualities which produced the league's best defensive record last season.

Warrington hit the bar on 12 minutes following a corner, and went close on 29 minutes when Wayne Brotherton cleared off the line.

Warrington pressed in the second half, but found Alsager keeper Rob Powner in outstanding form.

Alsager could have snatched all three points in the last five minutes, the Warrington keeper pulling off a fine save from Andy Kinsey.

Alsager travel to Winsford United tomorrow.
