CANINE recruits are being sought by police to tackle anything from suspected terrorist incidents to crowd control.
With a number of police dog handlers set to complete their training in the coming weeks, an appeal has been issued for a batch of new puppies and young dogs to learn the ropes too.
German shepherds are the police's most popular choice as all-purpose dogs, used in a variety of scenarios.
Bond
But there could also be a rare vacancy for a sniffer dog, to detect illegal substances from drugs to explosives.
Either cocker or springer spaniels, or labradors, are often selected for this role.
Ideally dogs will be aged from eight months to 20 months and able to develop a close bond with their handler.
