COUNCILLORS investigating housing issues in Warrington have been told that grants totalling £2.6 million will be given to the private sector over the next year.
The grants are split into four areas to provide improvements to council homes - discretionary (dealing with repairs and renovations), disabled facilities, environmental works and stock condition.
Members of the council's neighbourhood services scrutiny group, meeting on Tuesday night, were told that the grants pay for work such as emergency plumbing or electrical work, and environmental work such as traffic calming.
The group is currently in the initial stages of developing a programme to look at over the coming year, and heard the report as it seeks to develop a list of issues which need investigating.
