FOLLOWING on from Chris Davies' comments on world poverty and the key role Warrington has to play in challenging politicians, we decided to compare wages in the town with those in some of the world's poorest countries.
l In Warrington, the average income of people in the town was calculated as £22,864 in April this year - the equivalent of £446.20 per week.
l In some of the world's poorest developing countries, however, the average annual wage is dwarfed by Warrington's weekly wage figure.
l The average Ethiopian earns just £65 every year, the average Somali £78 in a year, the average Bangladeshi takes home £248 a year, and the average Cambodian earns £169 per year.
l In Warrington, low pay is defined by the one-in-five people who earn less than £250 per week.
l Other countries where the annual incomes fall well below what the average Warrington person earns in a week include Afghanistan, where the figure is £189, and Nicaragua, where the figure is £274.
