A 36-year-old Warrington man was left with head and mouth injuries after he was attacked by two men armed with a butter knife and a hammer.
The assault, which left the victim needing specialist treatment for the mouth injury at Aintree Hospital, occurred at 5pm on Saturday. He passed a group of six men, who were verbally abusive, behind Peninsula House on O'Leary Street and was assaulted by two members of the gang.
The first attacker is described as a white 17-year-old man with short fair hair. He was 5ft 8ins tall and wore a grey sports top with blue jeans. The second man is 6ft tall, aged 16 and has olive skin. He has short dark hair, brown eyes and was wearing a beige top and blue tracksuit bottoms.
As the second attacker approached the victim he produced a butter knife and was also seen to pick up an eight-inch hammer from the floor after the assault.
The victim's injuries are believed to have been caused by a kick or blow to the head and not by either of the weapons.
He was taken to Warrington General Hospital before being transferred to Aintree Hospital.
Witnesses should contact DC Mark Rowan at Warrington CID on 01244 613833.
