NEWTON Storm under 13s Rugby League side gave a good account of themselves in a nine-a-side competition against some strong opposition in Saddleworth.
In their first game, Newton were beaten by Rochdale Mayfield despite working tirelessly throughout the game.
Newton defended well and they were unlucky not to score on several occasions.
But Rochdale's experience told in the end and they deserved their victory.
Newton's player of the match was tackling machine Nick Clarke.
In their second match, Newton played against the eventual winners, St. Annes, and they made them work hard for their victory.
Newton played some excellent running rugby at times and they were unlucky not to score a try when Dan Beswick was ruled to be short of the line as he battled to go over.
Newton's player of the match was Dan Eden.
