Golborne 1

Trafford 2

GOLBORNE Sports FC lost their first Mid-Cheshire Soccer League game for almost two years on Saturday.

They were defeated by an extremely hard working Trafford side, who were given a helping hand by the referee.

Golborne took the lead via a superbly taken goal from John Woods.

They then began to dominate proceedings but while they were pushing hard for a second goal, Golborne conceded a penalty.

Goalkeeper Lee Medland seemed to have come to Golborne's rescue with a fine save but the referee ordered that the spot kick was to be re-taken.

Trafford again missed from the spot but to Golborne's disbelief, the referee gave them a third crack of the whip and he fired home.

Golborne fell victim to another controversial refereeing decision in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The referee reduced Golborne to 10 men when he mistook a comment to an opponent as abuse towards himself.

This raised Trafford's hopes even further and they went on to win the game when a Golborne player slipped to give the away side a clear path to goal.

Golborne manager Ian Street said: "All I can ask is that the lads give 100 per cent and I am proud of them for that.

"If outside influences conspire to take away what we deserve then there is not a lot we can do about that."

On Saturday, Golborne are at home to near neighbours Garswood, kick-off 3pm.
