BRIDGE turned on the style to give Newton Summer Dominoes League Division A leaders Swan a taste of their own medicine this week.

Ste Jones and Alan Furay took out Swan's top duo Fred Spencer and Eddie Molyneux before Les Crook and Pat Flanagan beat Roy Mathias and Ste Hodson 2-0 to level the scores.

Geoff Twist and Ray Gilbody then blitzed Swan's Sam Crook and Les Corless 2- but the leaders equalised again thanks to a victory by Norman Bradbury and Ron Black over Les Anders and Chris Snelson.

In the deciding game, Bridge's dynamic duo Ron Ambrose and Bernie Newton hammered Wally Crook and Brian Charlson to secure a 3-2 success for the underdogs.

BRSA stayed hot on Swan's heels with a good 3-2 victory over highly-rated Sunbeam. Ian Wilson and Dave Pojunas, Jack Ryan and Terry Tither plus Jimmy Carrey and John Cooper were BRSA's men in form. Alan and Fred Pomfret plus Alan Malone and John Howlett brought a bit of respectability to the final score line for Sunbeam.

High-flying Vulcan held their nerve to edge out title contenders Griffin 3-2. Their winners were Sid Smith and Austin Atherton, Alan and Charles Hay plus Glyn Jones and Archie Lilley. Frank Wood and Eddie Harbidge plus Ged Hulme and Noel Bevan won the first two games for Griffin.

In Division B, basement club Victoria recorded the shock result of the season. They hammered league leaders Earlestown Cons 4-1.

Ste Hodkinson and Dave Hay kick-started Victoria's stampede, beating Joe and John Smith 2-1. John Kelly and Phil Whitney kept the bandwagon rolling with a good win against Earlestown's top duo Eddie Wilcox and Bill Edwards.

Youngsters Ste Rawlinson and Ste Broughton then took out Earlestown veterans Bob Plant and Geoff Thompson before Glen Hillam and Matt McGuire thrashed Jay Swift and Ste Pierce. Mick McCarthy and Les Skeech prevailed for Earlestown.

Millstone beat Old Crow 3-2 thanks to wins from Dave Jones and Ste Worthington, Ian Whamond and Matt Holland plus Phil Swift and Phil Bryan.

Wellington produced a stunning 5-0 victory over a troubled Railway outfit. Jim Dearden and John McClymont, Ben Skeech and partner, B. Smulders and Jonty Eden, T. Woods and Tony Bicker plus Les Banner and Ste Smulders won for Wellington.
