GRIFFIN gained their first Newton Summer Darts League Division A point of the season this week when they held an outstanding Vulcan Inn outfit to a draw.

Dave Panter gave Vulcan a good start, defeating Jeff Hales in 35 darts before Griffin's ace marksman Norman Dackombe levelled matters with a 33-dart win against Ray Panter.

In the third leg, Vulcan called on the services of Glynn Jones but he could only manage a draw against Martin Corrigan.

Griffin wonder boy Alan Cowley then produced a 20-dart pearler against Wayne Smith before Vulcan hit back with a 19-darter from in-form John Jones against George Fairclough.

After the interval, Ged Hulme beat Dave Henry in 27 darts to put Griffin back in front and they extended their lead to 4-2 when Steve Howlett overcame Ray Smith with a sweet double eight.

In their penultimate game, Vulcan's top gun Archie Lillet produced a good 23-darter against Griffin's skipper Noel Bevan before Welsh dragon Trefor Jones defeated Ian Makinson to dent Vulcan's championship aspirations.

BRSA maintained their 100 per cent record with a 5-4 victory over luckless Sunbeam.

Bridge trounced Swan 7-2 with wins from Les Anders, Al Furay, Chris Snelson, Tony Mawdsley, Dave Brown, Phil Weston and Ste Hodson. Keith Bowes and Mike Jones Snr were Swan's only successes.
