ST HELENS completed the double over Liverpool when, needing eight off the last over to win, Neil Woods duly obliged with a four as darkness fell.

Young Rob Supria held his nerve to score the single which gave Neil the strike and it proved just as important as the 36 not out from Woods to add to his five catches behind the wicket.

Saints had earlier dismissed Liverpool for 120 with Sanjey Panday continuing his good season with 4-32, Phil Roughley (4-33) having the assistance of four excellent catches and Gary Sheppard (1-38) and Adam Friar (1-1) completing the list.

Saints did not find batting any easier but Panday (33), Darren Tyms (18) and Neil Woods (36 not out) did enough to ensure victory and send Liverpool home without availing themselves of the post-match hospitality.

Saints completed a Bank Holiday double when they travelled to Orrell on Monday. Sloppy catching gave Unsworth (44) and Everette (29) several lives and with Craig (48 not out) and Pegg (27 not out) fighting a rear guard action they occupied the crease for 64 overs before declaring at 109 for 7.

Sanjey Panday again led the bowlers with 3 for 33 from 21 overs with Gary Sheppard taking 1-57 and spinners Phil Roughley (1-36) and Adam Friar (2-63) not getting much response from a good batting wicket.

Saints batsmen also enjoyed the good conditions and Phil Roughley's second century of the season (115) anchored the innings with Dave Lowe (26) and Sanjay Panday (28 not out) giving excellent support at the other end.

Departure

Roughley's departure with the end in sight allowed Mark Potter one hit which soared out of the ground for six to win the game.

In the second team fixture at Windleshaw Road, Orrell declared at 151 for 8 wickets with local batsman Steve Tickle opening the innings and scoring 66.

Saints bowlers enjoyed a good day with Rob Supria (3-27), Ian Greener (3-41) and Alan Sheppard (2-61) the wicket takers.

In return Saints were all out for 114 with opener Paul Booth scoring 40 to add to his three catches behind the stumps and John Hill adding 23.

Next Saturday the first team travel to Newton-le-Willows while the seconds entertain Lytham at home.
