BACK by popular demand - Newton heritage festival kicks off for the second year running on Friday, September 13, from 2pm until 6pm, with an official opening ceremony on Saturday from 10am until 7pm. And Sunday from 1pm until 5pm marks the close of the festival.

The year's event promises to be even bigger and better than last year and is officially opened by Peter A. Cain, son of legendary boxer Peter Kane. This year's venue is Newton Methodist Church on Cross Lane and as well as the usual fascinating displays, the event is set to bring the past to life with the recreation of a 1953 kitchenette and genuine characters from Newton's past. There will also be an auction of a never before published photograph of the Beatles when they appeared at Newton Town Hall in 1962.

Programmes are £1 and on sale this Friday and Saturday at Somerfield.
