A WARRINGTON band's mojo is firmly in place this summer as they prepare themselves for a tour of the Emerald Isle.
Red Mojo travel to Ireland in October, to introduce tracks like Attention, Raining and Northwest Water (a definite aqua theme here) to a wider audience and hunt down the ultimate prize of a record deal.
And the bluesy Warrington bunch paid homage to the Fab Four when they played Liverpool's Matthew Street festival, last weekend.
Formed in 1997, Red Mojo originally pushed the boundaries of electro-blues but have recently developed a more expansive delivery and have signed to production company Latch, who has previously worked with The Lighthouse Family and Sweet Female Attitude.
The 11-track demo shows a real maturity, perhaps lacking from some other
Warrington bands.
Lee Leonard, lead singer, croons like a
seasoned veteran and the outstanding Lennon tribute Legend along withDylanare as silky smooth as they come, boasting the self assured growl - Play Together.
Early in 2002, Matt Dolley became the fifth Mojo when he joined the band to take on keyboard duties.
The band believes they boast a renewed energy and more dynamic sound and have joined forces with promoter Steve Lord to spread the message across the north west.
Playing the reputed Manchester and Liverpool venues, singer Lee recounted an amusing Mojo experience.
"We're actually banned from playing at the Cavern because the signed band we were supporting brought no fans whatsoever and the promoter blamed us," said Lee.
"So we pulled the plug on their performance as they were using all our equipment and cleared off."
