not happy with this Labour council

The following is a copy of a letter sent to Clr Mike Hughes, leader of Warrington Borough Council.

AS A long-standing voluntary organization in an area of defined deprivation and poverty we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your forward planning and compassion for the people of Warrington.

We must ask the question is: Dallam and Bewsey an affluent, well-maintained, scenic, high demand for properties area or is this only in our dreams?

We fully appreciate that resources are limited.

However we do protest that the council tax for such an area is funding a very selective service.

We would dearly love to welcome the Street Scene initiative onto the streets of Bewsey and Dallam.

This would help with the tireless voluntary work put in by numerous volunteers over the years.

To add insult to injury we now hear from our local councillor that our community development worker is not going to be replaced as he has left for pastures green.

Over the past two years we have been encouraged to develop local forums in line with Warrington Borough Council's Community Plan, all this work has been done voluntary and seems futile now.

We are told that the community development service is facing massive cuts and yet this is the service that works with the people to improve their own living environment.

If anything we believe that the community development service should be expanded and better resourced, which will improve their ability to reach the people other services and departments cannot access.

We pride ourselves on being a community development project and used to believe that the council valued the service that community development provided.

Needless to say we are totally disillusioned with this Labour council, and think that perhaps the Liberal Democrats might have a more sympathetic ear.

Your cabinet seems to have adopted the "I'm alright Jack stance", and people living in areas such as Bewsey and Dallam will have to get on with it and fend for themselves.

So much for the new Labour.
