THE internationally acclaimed Haydock Male Voice Choir celebrates its 80th anniversary next March.
And to mark this occasion it has been decided to compile a history spanning its progress from a group of pit-village choristers to a top attraction for lovers of their kind of massed-voice music.
George Anderton has cheerfully accepted the task and writes: "Over the years, successive officials have retained a wealth of documented material. But, of the early years, there is nothing by way of photographs". Now he hopes that customers of this column can help fill in the blanks.
He's seeking to borrow old pictures of the choir or its members, particularly those that are pre-1950.
"Most members from that era have now passed away", adds George, "but relatives may still have in their possession some material relating to the choir. I'd be most pleased to hear from anyone who may have something I could use".
H IF you can oblige, then please contact George at 7 Grange Valley, Haydock, St Helens WA11 0SZ; or give him a call on St Helens 734614.
