SAINTS players have united to record a series of radio broadcasts that encourage depressed young men to talk openly about their problems.

The campaign run by Calm - the Campaign Against Living Miserably - is launched as many youngsters reflect on their A-level and GCSE results.

Skipper Chris Joynt is joined by Paul Sculthorpe, Tim Jonkers and Paul Wellens as they call on young men to contact the Calm helpline if they feel down or stressed out.

Paul Sculthorpe said: "Whether its exam results or anything else, talking to a friend or someone else you trust is best.

"But if that's too hard then a call to the Calm helpline will help you get things sorted."

Calm was set up because of the high suicide rate among Merseyside's young men.

A Calm statement claims suicide accounts for one in five deaths among 15-34 year old men and is overtaking road accidents as the highest cause of death.

Chris Joynt said: "Saints are 100 per cent behind Calm in saying to young men it is a sign of strength, not a weakness, to talk things over with someone."

Anyone feeling down or who would like to talk through their problems can contact the Calm helpline on 0800 585858. Lines are open every day between 5pm and 3am, calls are free and treated in confidence.
