Appleton Cricket Club's second team had to settle for a draw against a talented Northwich Seconds team.
Northwich batted first and although Smethurst and Challis bowled well to claim seven wickets between them, Appleton could not prevent them reaching the large total of 185 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Appleton's top order started well with Clarke and Anson scoring 38 and 31 respectively but their biggest battle was the light.
As the night drew closer Appleton's runs dried up and they finished on a respectable 160-7.
