AT last we have had a week or so of fairly settled weather which has had a positive effect on Lymm Angling Club's fisheries.

On Saturday, members on our stretches of the River Dane enjoyed some top quality sport. Chub and large dace formed the bulk of catches. Fixed leads and trotting floats were the best methods.

Bailiff Dave Shard reports that our Rossall stretch of the River Severn has been on fire. Barbel action has been particularly good while a lot of chub have also been caught.

'Daley of the river' has again been emptying the Bollin at Heatley Mill. His catch was mostly made up of perch to 1lbs.

Belmont Pool appears to have awakened and despite significant angling pressure, most members have been enjoying good days of carp action. So much so that I have had reports of rods and poles being dragged into the water by carp.

One such junior angler was lucky enough to be reunited with his rod and reel. They were retrieved by club officials clearing up line snags from around the island.

A problem that has manifested itself is the use of braid as hook lengths. This product assists and enhances presentation.

However, the problem lies in the fact that these hook lengths are stronger than the main line and therefore increase the chances of long lengths of line being left in waters following snap offs. Could members please give this matter some thought and try to come up with a solution to the problem.

Grimsditch Mill Pool has been reopened to members only. Due to depleted fish stocks following the recent fish mortalities, the club decided that it was inappropriate to reopen the water to day ticket anglers.

It has been noted that significant, possibly excessive, amounts of bait have been used at Lymmvale.

If bailiffs see excessive amounts of bait being applied they are empowered to take action under item 33 of the club's constitution.

Also on Lymmvale, a litter problem has again manifesting itself. As a result, the committee is contemplating closing the site to address the matter.

People who leave litter on our waters are not wanted by the club. If any anglers witness or suspect such littering, they should report the situation immediately - do not let these anti-social types spoil your fishing.

To finish on a positive note, I am busy gaining verification of the capture of a 34-35lbs carp from Village Pool. Bailiffs Jimmy and Alan Ogburn have already seen photographs of the fish and spoken to its captor.
