Alsager 0
Warrington Town 0
WARRINGTON Town squandered an ideal opportunity to bring to an end a disappointing run of away form on Saturday.
Town, who have only won twice on their travels in North West Counties League Division One since November, found goalkeeper Rob Powner an impenetrable barrier as they laid siege on Alsager's goal.
Powner pulled off several first class saves to ensure that Town failed to capitalise upon their one-man advantage, which they had for two thirds of the game.
Alsager had been reduced to 10 men following a contentious decision by the referee when Town striker Chris Moores was fortunate not to receive a red card after a flare up with Paul Ireland.
In an off the ball incident, Moores, when grounded, attempted to kick Ireland, provoking the Alsager midfielder into raising his hands to his opponent's face. Moores went unpunished while Ireland was sent off.
In attack, Neal Holden suffered the most torment as Warrington toiled in vain to break the deadlock.
After he had a shot cleared off the line by Wayne Brotherton - Mark Ashton provided him with an opening with a classy through ball. Holden was denied on three occasions by Powner when he looked set to score.
Young striker Liam Sweeney, promoted from the reserves for this season, went close to scoring after coming off the bench but his powerful drive rebounded off an upright.
Team: O'Hanlon, Tague, Ashton, Davies, Webster, Adams, Latham, Sweeney, Tickle, Holden, Moores, Hives. Sub used: Sweeney. Subs not used: Locke, Ingle.
