Warrington Town 1

Fleetwood Freeport 4

ALAN Blair could not hide his disappointment after Tuesday night's home thumping in North West Counties Division One.

His side had only conceded one goal in their previous three outings this season but goalkeeping mistakes and slack defending made a mockery of that statistic.

The Town boss said: "There was no injustice in the result.

"Overall they were stronger than us but I was surprised that they out-muscled us in all three departments.

"Having said that, goals change games. If Neal Holden had put one in when he had the chance shortly before half-time then the game would have altered.

"We did go 1-0 up early in the second half but then we went on our heels. While we had not been playing well we should have consolidated to settle for the 1-0 win.

"But we didn't consolidate and that was a disappointment."

A double Town substitution at half-time - former Macclesfield striker Adam Naylor for Holden and another forward Liam Sweeney for Matt Adams - certainly livened up Town up front.

But Blair missed absent key defender Mark Ashton after Chris Moores had put Warrington ahead from the penalty spot after 55 minutes following a deliberate hand ball.

Fleetwood, who had enjoyed the majority of possession and territory, then made their dominance count.

Freeport's front men took over with speedy John Richards threading the ball through for Lee Catlon to chip the ball over stranded goalkeeper Terry O'Hanlon in the 58th minute.

Seven minutes later three defenders sat back from Catlon which allowed him to square a pass for Kevin Barnes to fire home with a low drive.

Catlon lost his marker and netted from Richards' cross in the 82nd minute and Barnes nodded over O'Hanlon from a long and quickly taken free kick.

Town: Terry O'Hanlon, Andy Tague, Steve Cartledge, Paul Davies, Lee Webster, Matt Adams, Steve Latham, Dave Tickle, Neal Holden, Chris Moores, Paul Hives. Subs used: Adam Naylor, Liam Sweeney, Dave Pick.
