WOOLSTON started the new season with a disappointing result at promoted East Leeds.

Dismayed coach John Fieldhouse has revealed: "There will definitely be changes for the home game against Skirlaugh on Saturday."

Despite 35 players training at the start of last week Fieldhouse had only 21 to choose from on Thursday and four cry-offs on Saturday morning left him with a bare 17 players.

He said: "We were delayed in getting away, hit traffic on the journey, only arrived half an hour before kick-off which left us with no time for a warm-up and complete preparation."

The outcome was that Rovers' performance was littered with handling errors and the team completed only one set of six tackles throughout the whole game.

Fieldhouse said: "The positive is that we scrambled well in defence. Despite East Leeds having 75 per cent of the ball we only conceded three tries."

Woolston's tries came from full back Kris Buckley and hooker Neil Smith while stand off Andy Hill converted one.

Man of the match by far was Woolston loose forward Danny Heaton while forwards Neil Smith and Lee Rathbone also had decent games.

Fieldhouse is hoping to sign a stand off ahead of the Skirlaugh game at Bennett's Rec, which kicks off at 2.30pm, and the Woolston coach will also have the weekend's absentees scrum half Liam McCarthy, utility man Andy James, forwards Graham Muckalt and Shaun Geritas plus hopefully Mark Wallington available again.

l Rovers look set to lose the services of their long serving goal-kicking utility player Steve Martin, who is likely to be emigrating to Spain.
