I learn with much surprise that the Mineworkers Union built the nurses home at Peasley Cross Hospital otherwise St Helens Hospital.
At a time when we have no working miners I would have thought the local authorities would have preserved the one lasting monument of better times.
But no it was not to be. The cash register is ticking over and they thought the half a miner on Anderton Island was enough.
