Leek Town 1 Witton Albion 2 UniBond Division One Saturday, August 24

WITTON stayed true to the addage that every game lasts 90 minutes on Saturday as they managed a remarkable win against Leek Town.

Having been ahead for much of the game through Steve Mallinson, Albion almost shot themselves in the foot when they allowed Leek to get back into the game and level the scores.

But, as they have proved so often in the past, Witton are one of the fittest teams in the league and can be relied upon to run and create chances right up to the final whistle - regardless of when this might come.

On Saturday it came on 94 minutes and Witton's perseverance and determination paid off as they retook the lead through a Mike Moseley strike after 93 minutes.

Albion had dominated the game for long periods and Leek were lucky to only come away having conceded two goals.

It would have been more but for a fine goalkeeping performance from Tim Mullock and average finishing from Mallinson, Simon Burton and Mike Moseley.

Witton too had to withstand concerted periods of pressure as the home team initially tried to level the match and then tried to take all three points.

But with each game played together Gary Furnival, Brad Sandeman, Wes Simpson and Ben Johnson become a stronger unit and aside from the home team's goal, a long range effort from Steve Taaffe, they rarely looked troubled and have formed a formidable back line.

As ever Witton turned to their mobile and ever willing front runners, Moseley, Mallinson and Crompton to earn them three points and again they didn't disappoint with Mallinson hitting an angled shot shortly before half time and a corner falling to Moseley which he prodded home to steal the points.
