A 19-year-old Warrington man is being questioned by police in connection with the attempted murder and attempted rape of a Bewsey pensioner.
Winifred Murray was attacked and stabbed by an intruder as she slept at her home on Troutbeck Avenue at midnight on Bank Holiday Monday.
Mrs Murray is in a stable but serious condition at Warrington Hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds.
The pensioner's home was cordoned off in the early hours of Tuesday morning as forensic experts searched for clues and officers also carried out house-to-house enquiries on Thursday.
