SUPPORTERS of the legendary Carlton club could be getting together for a final knees-up after accepting news that the nightspot will not reopen.
Just one month after hearing that Arcadia would not sign the final contract, clubbers are set to roll back the years on a special Carlton reunion night.
Memories of performances from Wilson Pickett, Edwin Starr and the Three Degrees will be recalled at The Alliance Club, Norman Street, on October 26.
But co-manager Kevin Mannion is still bitter towards retail giant Arcadia, which owns the lease, for pulling out of the deal and refusing to let the property out as a nightclub.
Kevin, who had spent £3,000 towards the anticipated reopening with partner Steve Coray, said: "We worked hard to convince the council, police and licensing authorities and show them we could turn the place round - but we did it."
Kevin now lives in a bed-sit, on Wilderspool Causeway, following the sale of his house to finance the deal to resurrect the Carlton to its former glory.
"Arcadia doesn't realise the history behind the club," he said. This isn't just a room above a shop.
"Everyone who loved that club is devastated and if I had a pound every time somebody came up to offer commiserations I would no longer have any money worries."
