FIRE crews were called to a kitchen blaze in the home of an elderly Culcheth woman on Monday night.
The incident happened at the property in Sutton Avenue just before midnight, when a dishwasher set alight.
Firefighters from Birchwood entered with breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to tackle the flames, and a fan was used to clear heavy smoke-logging in the kitchen and lounge.
The woman, aged 75, had closed all the doors in her home before she went to bed, which helped stop the fire from spreading.
She was comforted by neighbours following the incident.
It is believed that an electrical fault with the dishwasher caused the blaze.
The property had a smoke alarm fitted. To get your free home fire safety check, contact your nearest fire station.
