A PRIMARY school that was placed on special measures four years ago has continued to improve, say education watchdogs.
Ofsted officials have compiled an encouraging report on St Augustine's RC Primary, in Henshall Avenue, after an inspection last June.
They say pupils' achievements are good, up to age seven, and are improving for years three to six.
But the inspection team, led by Jean-Pierre Kirkland, believe standards are not yet satisfactory by age 11.
Headteacher Michael Boland is singled out for praise for his leadership and management skills.
And good overall teaching standards were remarked upon, especially the progress made in English, science and maths by year one and two pupils.
The 'positive learning environment', giving youngsters the self-confidence to succeed, was also singled out.
Improvements have been called for pupils' performance in a range of subjects by the end of year six though.
Responding to the report's findings, Mr Boland said: "The inspectors said that our children 'love to learn' - there can be no greater compliment."
In the wake of St Augustine's disappointing 1998 Ofsted report a temporary headteacher was drafted in and within six months the school was already on the road to recovery.
