Whitchurch 2
NEWTON women's hockey side had to settle for a share of the spoils in a superb end-to-end game between two evenly matched teams.
Whitchurch opened the scoring from a lucky shot at goal but Newton got back on level terms when Emma Chedotal put the ball in the back of the net following a reverse hit by Mel Heaps.
In the second half, Whitchurch began to dominate possession. They had a succession of penalty corners and they were rewarded with a good goal.
Newton continued to battle and they equalised when Kelly Sherlock's drive across goal was fired home by Heaps.
Karen Jones was voted Newton's best player for her outstanding performance in midfield.
This weekend Newton play away to Oswestry.
