Golborne 1

GOLBORNE maintained second spot in the Mid-Cheshire Soccer League with a hard earned victory at Whitchurch.

The game was a scrappy affair and in truth neither side deserved the three points.

But Golborne defended with a great spirit throughout the game and they were able to pinch the points courtesy of an expert finish by Musins midway through the first half. He drove the ball into the bottom corner of the net with Whitchurch's goalkeeper already committed to an earlier shot.

Golborne manager Ian Street said: "I was very pleased with the win. We were not at our best but last season we played exceptionally well at Whitchurch and came away with nothing.

"Special mention must go to John Woods, who due to injury and illness is having to do the hard work of almost playing up front on his own at the moment."

On Saturday, Golborne defend their Divisional Cup crown with a home first round tie against Barnton Reserves, kick-off 3pm.
