A NEWTON girl is set to make her debut international overseas next week.
Fifteen-year-old Kellie Leyland is in the Football Association's England Under 17s' girls squad which will be travelling to play France in Claire Sontaine, near Paris, on October 25.
The central defender plays for Highton Ladies and her Newton High School team and aims to impress in her final training sessions in London at the weekend and then in France to be selected for the match.
David Bullock, head of the upper school at Newton High, said: "Kellie is a very talented sportsperson and she is very dedicated to her football.
"Sport is obviously a very big part of her life but she gets stuck into her work too. We are very pleased with her conscientious approach to her work."
