TENACIOUS Griffin fought back from the brink of defeat to edge out Vulcan 3-2 in Earlestown Dominoes League Division One.

Vulcan raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to good play by Dave Jourdan and Mick Martin plus John Parlett and Dave Halsall but table toppers Griffin refused to give in.

Wins by Ged Hulme and Noel Bevan, Tony Parkins and Andy Case plus Dennis Morse and Stuart Garton ensured that Griffin's unbeaten record remained intact.

Sunbeam maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-2 success over Newton Social 3-2.

They made a good start when Alan Lawrenson and Ian Sudworth beat George Brown Jnr and Jimmy Lodge, who gift wrapped Sunbeam's first leg win by knocking on when he could go.

Derek Simm and Bob Corrigan won the second leg against Colin Taylor and Les McClymont to give Sunbeam a 2-0 lead before Keith Bell and Ken Harrison reduced Newton's arrears with victory over Gordon Mayor and George Brown Snr.

Alan and Fred Pomfrett wrapped up the points for Sunbeam by defeating Alan Gardiner and Alan Burrows before M. Milanovitch and George Jones recorded a consolation win for Newton.

St. Pats had to settle for a share of the spoils in their match against Blue Bell.

Blue Bell's winners were C. Fletcher and Gordon McClymont plus Ray Pearce and Ken Senior. Dave Gilchrist and John Thompson plus Harry Hill and Pat Carroll triumphed for St. Pats.

Bridge caused the upset of the week, overcoming in-form Swan 3-2.

Their men in form were Les Anders and Ron Ambrose, Roy Mathias and Ste Hudson plus Phil Weston and G. Twist. Fred Spencer and Eddie Molyneux plus Les Crook and Dave Leyland replied for Swan.

BRSA B remained rooted to the bottom of the table after losing 3-1 to Earlestown Cons Club.

Earlestown's individual winners were Joe and John Smith, Tony Close and Ste Moss plus Geoff Thompson and Ste Taylor.

Dave Pojunas and Jocky Wilson were the B team's star performers.

New boys Millstone top Division Two after a fine 3-2 win against Newmarket.

John Kenny and Eric Wilson plus Dave Jones and Rob Prescott gave Millstone a dream start by beating Newmarket's J. K. Lyon and Arthur Bell plus Dave Carter and Kevin Phillips respectively.

Newmarket then turned up the gas with wins from Ste Pilling and D. Fletcher plus Ian Ward and Damien Jones.

The final leg was a real nail biter but in the end, Phil Bryan and Keith Hill took out Newmarket's Paul Nolan and Ian Ward to clinch a victory which will make Division Two teams sit up and notice of Millstone's power dominoes.

Houghton Arms stayed hot on the heels of Millstone, only one point adrift, thanks to a 4-1 drubbing of BRSA A.

Their winners were Dave Hill and Alan Cunliffe, Rod Young and Dave Woods, K. McCarthy and G. Hosty plus Keith Brady and H. Cooper. Ste Bloxham and Neil Forshaw offered resistance for BRSA.

Old Crow drew 2-2 with Wellington despite leading 2- at one stage due largely to great play by J. Fera and J. Wright plus A. Baines and partner.

Ian Hickey and D. Barton and Eddie Richardson and Les Banner made sure that Wellington did not go away empty handed.

Railway beat Rams Head 3-2 through wins by Ronnie Carr and Pete Patterson, M. Wheatley Snr and Jnr plus Paul Flynn and Richard Nash.

Ron Woods and Ian McLeish plus John Hughes and Alan Murray won in vain for Rams.

Victoria had good winners in J. J. Grainger and Ste Rawlinson plus Dave Hay and Ste Hodkinson but St. Davids sneaked home through excellent play from Alan Jones and Trevor Johnson, Ken McClymont and Frank Green plus B. Earnshaw and Gordon Harrison.
