NEWTON equestrian Amy Speed could be galloping all the way to the top this weekend after she qualified for the Birchenly Manor Festival Championships.
Despite the fact that it's only 16-year-old Amy's second season showing, she came top of the class in both the pure part bred Welsh section and the best condition.
Amy, of Southworth Avenue, will compete this Saturday at the competition in Rochdale with her horse Flight, otherwise known as Dulas Deryn Du, against competitors of all ages and standards.
Stallions
She said: "I'm quite nervous at the moment but I'm really excited too. I'll be up against lots of senior competitors, some of whom will be adults and there will even be stallions there."
"But we're confident that Amy and Flight can stand their ground, considering the team were the overall winners in their first season at the pony club.
