THE Wids showed great spirit as they competed all the way against a very strong Mold team.
Mold scored first after they had socked up early Widnes pressure.
Widnes hit straight back and after great forward play Justin Winstanley forced his way over, Ian Dennett kicked the home side into the lead with the conversion.
The Welsh visitors were finding it hard to break down the Widnes defence. Gavin Hatton, Tom McMuldroch, Casey Watmore and John Forrest all showed great defensive qualities and half backs Andy Finney and Shaun Newall continually caused problems in attack.
With the bare 15 players available though, Widnes finally succumbed to Mold pressure and conceded two tries. But the visitors were made to fight all the way for the victory.
Fine displays by Chris Morgan, Neil Shaw and Andrew Griffiths in the forwards and both wingers Liam Dunbebin and Calum Wicker.
