WIDS played host to Wrexham on Sunday who brought 22 players so, to give the whole squad a game, the teams played two games.

The first game was controlled from the outset by the Wids, with some smooth passing and intelligent backing up by all.

Widnes soon began to dominate the rucks and mauls and this brought the ball to the Wids backs that made good use of it.

Atkin, Buckle, Morris and Thompson all crossed the line to make the final score 20-0 to the Wids side.

The second game was played against a fresh Wrexham side, with the majority of the Wids side unchanged.

The second game saw Widnes turn up the heat and dominate the game from start to finish.

Excellent tackling by Rugen, Stewart, Jones, Smith, Lee and Atkin meant that few of the opposition wanted to be caught in possession.

Bebbington distributed the ball intelligently and Shaw consistently ripped the ball away from any hand that was not red and black in the mauls.

Both Morris and Phillips crossed the line on the day in impressive fashion and were always there at the breakdowns.

Buckle went over twice more to make a hat trick for the day. Thompson also went over the line twice more to bag his three for the day.

Pennington's hard work was also rewarded with a trip over the whitewash to make the total haul for the day 70 points for a reply of only five.

Wids took most of the possession at the mauls and superlative handling on a wet and greasy surface meant the ball invariably ended up over the opposition line.
