WESLEY Snipe's Blade is as far removed from the traditional creepy Nosferatu vampire as is humanly, or not so humanly, possible. Not only has the half vampire/half human turned his back on his addiction to blood, but the leather-clad hero is an avowed slayer of all blood-sucking creatures.

Of course, if you saw the first film then you will already know this but if you are a fresh-blooded first timer then do not fear - it doesn't matter one jot if you know nothing about the original

In this sequel, Blade finds himself siding with the bad guys in a bid to prevent a new super-vampire from taking over the world.

Secondly, the super-vampires - known as Reapers - are zombie-like and way scarier than the sissy vampires. I can't begin to imagine the dentist's shock when he asks them to say "ah'.

Thirdly, it quickly becomes apparent that Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) - Blade's mentor in part one - is actually alive!

But the most terrifying twist has to be when chief reaper Jared Nomak turns towards the camera and - arrrggghh - you realise with horror that it is Luke Goss of Bros fame. Remember him?

Blade II is thin on the ground when it comes to an imaginative plot and is about as deep and intelligent as Jade Goody. It doesn't exactly suck but it's not great either.

The fight scenes are great fun and there is a terrific techno soundtrack, but it never quite reaches the intensity you hope for. Liz Payne
