I AM writing to comment on the chronic state of our roads and motorway systems around the town.

As of Monday, September 23, Whittle Avenue was shut from Sankey Way heading towards Westbrook, causing congestion in the areas of Twenty Acre Road and Hood Manor, at the same time that the usual queues built up around Winwick A49 for the M62 road works. Chester Road, after the Swan pub on the way to Daresbury and the M56 was down to one lane on both sides for maintenance work - this was after I queued for half an hour to go around Bridge Foot! And I don't think I need to remind the rest of your readers about that other minor irritant, the M6 at Thelwall.

What excellent planning by the town hall officials - to choose to allow maintenance work all at the very same time as the more urgent ones such as the M62 and Thelwall Viaduct.

I am regularly in and out of Warrington to Chester, Halifax and Leeds for my job and I can tell you that the motorway driving of the M62 over the Pennines or the M56 towards Chester does not take up most of my journey time - it's the poor road network we have in Warrington.

I would be very interested to hear the views of other fed-up motorists and residents - specially as I bet there are a lot of Sankey, Westbrook and Burtonwood residents who will start to think we are being segregated!!!
