AN adventurous Great Sankey man got on his bike and cycled the width of the country to help raise £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Nick Gregg, of Thornton Road, along with his brother John Gregg and friend John Winder, embarked on a gruelling 140-mile journey to boost funds for the charity.

Their travels took them from the starting point in Whitehaven, across the magnificent hills of the Lake District, through the Pennines and the Northumberland Moors, into Newcastle and onto Tynemouth.

It took the group two-and-a-half days to complete the fundraising challenge.

Nick said: "We wanted to cycle the Sustrans C2C route and I thought it would be a good idea to raise money for Macmillan at the same time. We would like to thank everyone who sponsored us."
