LYMM Angling Club members and other Lymm Dam users need to be aware of a situation that is extremely dangerous.

Club bailiffs have discovered trip lines across the access to some of the water's fishing points. They have been manufactured from multi-stranded heavy fishing line.

The placement of these lines is thought to be deliberate and they could cause injury to anyone making their way to the fishing area.

The situation has been reported to the police and the club will press for serious charges to be brought against the perpetrator once they are caught.

Once again it is that time of year for the club's annual meeting. It will commence at the Bank Quay Social Club on Green Street at 8pm on Monday.

Proposals include matters relating to barbless hooks, the use of unhooking mats and the return to member only use of Grimsditch Mill Pool. Up to date licences are required to gain entry.

Water temperatures have dropped quickly this week and this has seriously affected fishery performance. We have also had some long awaited rain which will have contributed to the cooling affect.

Deeper waters cope better during this period of change and may be a better option than smaller shallow waters.

Thankfully, we were able to re-open Village Pool this week and members have been drifting on to the water. Form has not been at its best although carp appear to be feeding normally.

Carp have also continued to feed on Belmont Pool. Member Tony Hughes has enjoyed a productive session there, landing six mirror and one ghost carp. Using 'pva' bags filled with pellets and fishmeal boilies attached to the hook, his average fish weighed 10lbs while his biggest fish weighed 15lbs.

Carp have been producing the best action on Founders Pool. However, silver fish have not been feeding well. This is a situation that will improve once temperatures stabilise.

On Sunday, club official Steve Mitchell set out his stall on this carpy little water and landed only one fish. Nevertheless, he was not disappointed as his carp weighed in at an incredible 17lbs.

Rivers will have benefited from the recent rain although the positive effects are unlikely to be felt by anglers until they fine down a little.

Nevertheless, the sudden impact of the cold water may well have a detrimental affect on those waters in algal bloom. Therefore, members are requested to report any signs of fish in distress.
