Lymm RFC 31

Wilmslow RUFC 18

LYMM recorded their first Rugby Football Union South Lancashire/Cheshire One win of the season with a fine display against Wilmslow.

Centre Richard King made a welcome return to first team action for Lymm following a career threatening injury and his side set off at a frantic pace.

Paul Thatcher hit the post with a long-range penalty before the stylish stand off set up a push over try for prop Jim Fergusson.

But through indiscretions and unforced errors, Lymm allowed the visitors to hit back and take a lead into the half-time break.

At the start of the second half, Kinsey and Thatcher did the donkey work for a quality try by Mark Sutton and Eoin O'Toole stamped home Lymm's advantage by going over following good work by Nick Shaw.

M. Sutton then stretched Lymm's lead and although Wimslow came back into contention with a try and a penalty goal, Lymm were able to round off a satisfactory team performance with tries by C. Kinsey and Martin Bower.

Lymm entertain Blackburn in the Powergen Intermediate Cup on Saturday. The game kicks off at 3pm.

The talent of Lymm Seconds' backs proved decisive as they defeated Wilmslow's second string 32-7.

Lymm's star performer was full back Liam O'Callaghan while Addi, two, John Henkins, Rob Hayes and Andy Holloway scored tries. Chris Elliott converted two of the touch down's and added a penalty.

Lymm Thirds annihilated Wilmslow Thirds 52-17 thanks to tries by M. Rooney, two, S. Holland Jnr, two, H. Schroder, J. Parr, C. Horne and N Walker.

M. Henderson converted six of the tries and open side flanker Matt Rooney was Lymm's man of the match.
