Tricorn 4 Helsby 2
A GREAT crowd turned out to cheer on the Tricorn to a much-deserved 4-2 win over Helsby in their Runcorn Cup quarter-final.
Tricorn's top marksman Mark Connor opened the scoring with a well-taken goal in the opening 20 minutes.
The West Cheshire first division outfit equalised from a corner before Tricorn immediately went back in front with a fantastic volley from Paul Dwyer.
After the break, Tricorn's possession and missed chances eventually paid off with Connor getting his second of the match and seventh of the season and only the post denied him his second hat-trick in a row.
The last 20 minutes were tense, especially when Helsby pulled it back to 3-2 from another set piece.
But Tricorn held their nerve and sealed the win with a goal from Paul Gumbs who battled on despite picking up an injury.
Jeff Tan and Pop Larkin earned a joint man of the match for their solid displays in midfield.
