FANS of Portishead will be in for a surprise when vocalist Beth Gibbons appears at the Liverpool Academy on Tuesday, February 25.

Currently on a break, Gibbons has been working with Talk Talk's Paul Webb - aka Rustin Man on music quite different from Portishead's sombre and often dark trip-hop.

Folk music hasn't been a part of the British popular music scene since the late 60's but this pairing prove that a renaissance is well over due. The duo creates music with a country feel that is more at home in the Welsh landscape than a west coast shipping suburb of Bristol. Nick Drake fans will appreciate the melodies of the music and for those who love a great voice, Beth's can't be beat.

The music itself is inspired by nature and in particular the changing of the seasons. Imagine blankets of fallen leaves in autumn and you come close to capturing the mood of their work.

This gig promises to be a laid back affair that music lovers of all ages should enjoy.
